During the IEEE Digital Twins and Parallel Intelligence 2023 conference last week, CEO Bill Bain presented a poster titled “Using Digital Twins to Track and Model Very Large Systems.” The poster highlighted the use of digital twins to implement real-time analytics and simulation for systems that track many entities, such as transportation and logistics networks. It also illustrated how these capabilities can be integrated to help managers make informed decisions in applications that span a wide variety of use cases, including telematics, airlines, security, healthcare, and disaster recovery.
The poster explained how applications can use a simple, object-oriented software framework for creating digital twins. It also described ScaleOut’s in-memory computing platform that can host thousands of digital twins on a cluster of servers to deliver fast access to state information and scale the processing workload.
As a case study, the poster showed the benefits that digital twins can provide in monitoring the U.S. freight rail system to help prevent train derailments by detecting overheated wheel bearings for the nation’s 500K freight cars. This practical application demonstrates the transformative potential of digital twins in enhancing safety in real-world applications.
